Lunchbox · Kids · No warning labels · Health

💡 Tired of checking labels looking for something without warning signs that your kids will actually eat? The school kiosk full of cookies and chocolate bars with warnings, a backpack carrying more sugar than lunch... A real alternative exists. Our cacao is different because it comes directly from the tree, no added sugar, no additives — and zero warning labels.
Putting together a school lunchbox in Peru has become a challenge. Since the implementation of the black warning label system on food packaging, many popular snacks are no longer allowed at school. The issue is finding options that meet the requirements and that kids will enjoy. Fundo Maranatha cocoa nibs are one of those options.
The black warning label system on packaging was implemented in Peru through the Healthy Eating Law (Law No. 30021) and its regulations. A product carries a warning label when it exceeds established limits for:
Schools with healthy kiosks and many conscious parents avoid products with warning labels. The issue is that many traditional snacks for children — cookies, chocolate bars, packaged ice creams — carry one or more warnings.
Our cocoa nibs are simply pieces of roasted and crushed cocoa. Nothing else.

Cocoa nibs are practical for a lunchbox:
This is the real question. Honesty matters: cocoa nibs have an intense flavor and can taste bitter to a palate used to sweet chocolate. However, there are strategies to make the transition easier:
Add a small amount of nibs to a mix with raisins or dates. The natural sweetness of dried fruit balances the bitterness and makes the introduction friendlier.
The taste for pure cacao develops over time. Start with small doses and increase gradually.
Mix nibs with oats, honey and nuts and bake. They stay crunchy and have a more balanced flavor than when eaten alone.
A teaspoon of nibs in plain yogurt with banana and honey makes an appealing container snack for the lunchbox.
