Which cacao to choose for what you want to make
If you'd rather read it all at once, here is the summary the quiz uses to recommend a product:
💚 For health and wellness
Cacao nibs are the most direct snack: crunchy, sugar-free and rich in magnesium. Natural cacao powder is ideal for smoothies and drinks, and cacao husk tea bags make a cacao-scented infusion with almost no calories. More on this in the health benefits of pure unsweetened cacao.
🧁 For baking
For brownies and cakes, natural cacao powder is the most practical (we explain why in natural vs alkalized cacao powder). For ganache, truffles and bonbons, cacao paste. And for toppings and texture, nibs: see our Peruvian dessert recipes with nibs.
🍫 For making chocolate
If you want to melt and mold, start with cacao paste (how to make chocolate at home). If you want the whole process, dry cacao beans are for you: roast, peel and grind them (how to roast cacao at home). A middle ground is roasted peeled cacao, ready to grind.
☕ For drinks
For thick, old-fashioned hot chocolate, use cacao paste (real hot chocolate vs industrial brands). For something quick or in a shake, cacao powder. And for a light drink, cacao husk as an infusion (how to brew it).
🏪 For your business
Chocolate makers, cafés and health food stores usually work with paste, beans, cacao powder and nibs. We offer volume pricing: from 5 kg of paste and from 10 kg of beans, roasted cacao and nibs. If you're just starting, read how to start a chocolate or baking business in Peru.

Frequently asked questions
Which cacao product is best to start with?
If you want something ready to use, cacao nibs and natural cacao powder are the easiest: add them to yogurt, oatmeal, drinks or batters with no prep. If you want to make chocolate, cacao paste is the simplest starting point.
Which cacao is the healthiest?
The least processed ones with no sugar: cacao nibs and natural (non-alkalized) cacao powder keep their flavanols, magnesium and fiber. Husk infusion is the lightest option, with almost no calories.
What do I need to make chocolate at home?
The quickest way is to melt 100% cacao paste and sweeten it to taste. If you want the whole process, start from dry beans: roast, peel and grind them to get your own paste.
